A Message from the Executive Director

March 17, 2022

Dear Partners and Friends of the FM Coalition to End Homelessness:

With a wide array of emotions, I have informed the Board of Directors of my resignation the as Executive Director of the FM Coalition to End Homelessness. My last day will be April 15, 2022. I have accepted an advocacy position with the ACLU of North Dakota.

With deep gratitude, I thank the Coalition for the opportunity to work with you all for the past seven years, first as CARES Coordinator and for the past five as Executive Director. Serving you as Executive Director has thus far been the most loved role of my professional life. While it is difficult to leave this organization and a mission that is so deeply connected to my personal values and passion, I am confident in all of you to continue the amazing efforts undertaken by this Coalition and expect you to take this organization forward to do great things.

I am proud of the work you all have all done in the time I have been fortunate enough work alongside you. Through your resourceful and collaborative efforts, an innovative housing focused cross border homeless response system is working hard to make homelessness rare, brief, and one-time. You’ve created quality education programs and relentlessly advocated for systems and social change both locally and across two states. You’ve raised public awareness and have found better ways to tell the story of homelessness through elevated data in the annual State of Homelessness report. And your hard work brought the coveted Bush Prize for Community Innovation to our small but mighty organization. There is not enough space in a one-page letter to list all you have done so I will just say, it has been a privilege and honor to be your colleague and partner.

Even though I am leaving the Coalition staff, I am excited to see where our shared advocacy interests may intersect. I will remain in my role as a Fargo Housing Commissioner and the ACLU has been a solid advocacy partner of the Coalition in the past, increasing the likelihood that our paths will cross in the important justice work that remains before us all.

Serving as your Coalition staff has been an incredible honor and an wonderful opportunity for doing the systems change, human rights, and social justice work which live in my soul. Words cannot express my gratitude to you all. A part of this exceptional Coalition will remain with me for the rest of my career and life.

Sincerely,
Cody J. Schuler
Executive Director
